Meet Virginia Delegate Bob Tata
Delegate Bob Tata is currently serving his fourteenth (14th) Term as a member of the Virginia General Assembly. He represents the 85th District which currently encompasses most of the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach; however, with redistricting he has currently picked up 7 new precincts that are outside the Kempsville area. He is now the 3rd highest ranking member in the House of Delegates and the most senior Ranking Republican.
He was educated at the University of Virginia where he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education and Guidance and Counseling. Bob has 30 additional hours in a doctoral program at Virginia Tech. Bob is a retired educator. While at Virginia he played baseball and football. In 1951 he was the state collegiate bating champion and in 1953 he was the 21st draft choice for the Detroit Lions.
Bob is married to the former Jeraldine Morris of Stanardsville, Virginia, a retired counselor from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools, and former School Board Member. They have three children:
Robert, a Naval Academy Graduate, who is currently practicing law and is a Retired Captain in the Naval Reserve; Anthony, a West Point Graduate and a Retired Brigadier General in the U. S. Army, is currently the Superintendant of the Raleigh/Wake County public school system; and Kendall, who is a high school teacher.
As a member of the House of Delegates, Bob serves on the following committees: Chairman of the Education Committee, (2nd ranking member) Appropriations Committee and has recently been appointed to the Transportation Committee. He chairs the Elementary and Secondary Education sub-committee on Appropriations. Delegate Tata is also a member of the P-16 Education Council, and the Civics Education Committee. In addition, Del. Tata is the House of Delegates representative to the Executive Board of the Virginia High School League.
